Nippon Unipac Holding wishes to announce that it has resolved at a meeting of the board of directors of the Company on May 24, 2004, to submit a resolution for a change of trade name at the fourth ordinary general meeting of stockholders scheduled on June 29, 2004.

Nippon Unipac Holding will change its trade name from the current name "Nippon Unipac Holding," to the new name shown below. The change will take effect on October 1, 2004 and is part of an initiative to bolster the brand strength of the Group.

Three years have passed since Nippon Unipac Holding was set up as a holding company as a result of business integration in March 2001. In the meantime, the reorganization within the Group is nearly complete and the Group's CSR promotion framework has been established. Group governance has thus been steadily strengthened. On the other hand, it is necessary to take action to ensure that the corporate brand becomes more widely known to the public than it is today.
For this objective, the Company will have in its new trade name the phrase "Nippon Paper", which has already been broadly familiar with many customers. To serve the interests of its customers and shareholders, the Company will be committed to establishing its brand as a leading company in the paper industry and to increasing its corporate value.
