Press ReleasesNippon Paper Industries Launches New Product "b7 BULKY", Developed at Ishinomaki Mill

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshio Haga) is pleased to announce the April 12 launch of b7 BULKY, a new product in the b7 series. The new product will be produced with paper machine 8 at Nippon Paper Industries' Ishinomaki Mill (Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture).

The b7 series uses Nippon Paper Industries' unique bulking technology to produce well-textured coated paper that achieves low base weight yet high paper thickness. To date, the series lineup has comprised b7 TRANEXT, b7 CREAM and b7 NATURAL. This time b7 BULKY, featuring even lower density, has been newly added.
As for features, b7 BULKY is a matt paper in a simple white with a 92% brightness level and offers superior shelf life thanks to its woodfree paper base. In addition, compared with b7 TRANEXT, the core brand in the b7 series, b7 BULKY achieves greater softness due to its even lower density. Further, b7 BULKY is being made available in a wide range of base weights to enable its use across various applications including magazines and books.

Ishinomaki Mill, where the paper is produced, was directly hit by the tsunami that followed the Great East Japan Earthquake, causing a complete shutdown of operation. While the mill remained unable to supply products for some time, due to company-wide restoration efforts paper machine 8 was the first equipment to resume operation in September last year. With restoration work continuing thereafter, product development continued with paper machine 8, culminating in the launch of b7 BULKY.
