Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Fumio Manoshiro; hereinafter, "the Company" or "NPI") announces the completion of the construction of equipment and facilities at a 100-megawatt-class thermal power plant, built by the joint power business venture Suzukawa Energy Center* established in partnership between NPI, Mitsubishi Corporation Power, Ltd. (President: Go Ishikawa; hereinafter, "MC Power") and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President: Satoru Katsuno; hereinafter, "Chubu Electric Power") making use of the former site of production facilities at NPI's Suzukawa Mill. Today affiliated parties held a ceremony to mark the completion of the construction project.

Suzukawa Energy Center commenced formal business operation as of September 1 this year, with NPI undertaking operation and maintenance of the power generation equipment. All power generated at the plant will be sold to electrical power retailer Diamond Power Corporation (President: Shinji Ozu).

NPI is advancing diverse business operations that utilize nationwide factory facilities and land resources as well as technology, know-how and human resources developed over many years; with the aim of contributing to better living and cultural progress. The Company's energy business operations--which contribute to the stable supply of electric power to society--are one aspect of these efforts, and NPI will continue to contribute to the stable supply of power through the operation of equipment and facilities at Suzukawa Energy Center, utilizing techniques and technologies for the operation of power generation equipment.
