Nippon Paper Chemicals Develops Clear Hardcoat Film
for Next-Generation LCD Panels
Functional film with an industry-leading level of abrasion resistance

Nippon Paper Chemicals Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Chemicals Co., Ltd. (President Toshio Inoue) has developed a highly abrasion-resistant clear hardcoat film for next-generation liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. It is the functional film used for the upper surface of LCD panels as a protective film for polarization plates, achieving an industry-leading level of abrasion resistance. It provides optimal functionality as a protective film for next-generation LCD panels, which will seek to display high-resolution images with higher-precision colors, such as personal laptops and LCD monitors with a television feature.

Recent years have seen rising demand for improved yield in the LCD panel production process and for measures to prevent scratches on the LCD panels of laptops and other hardware during use. The new clear hardcoat film is expected to provide solutions to these needs, ensuring an industry-leading level of abrasion resistance*1, at more than ten times the level offered by Nippon Paper Chemicals' current products. Meanwhile, pencil hardness*2 also promises 3H (JIS), the industry-leading level as standard. A higher level of antifouling property (the ease with which dirt, including finger marks, is removed) has been realized in consideration of the manufacturing process and usage environment at end users.

Nippon Paper Chemicals has for years enjoyed the leading market share for hard coated films for LCD. Calling on the manufacturing technologies it has developed, Nippon Paper Chemicals will offer a stable supply of this highest-quality hard-coated films that support next-generation LCD panels, while controlling cleanness.

*1: The difficulty with which scratches are created when the surface is scratched with steel wool and the like, expressed by compression pressure and number of times scratching occurs
*2: The highest hardness of a pencil when something is drawn on the surface with a pencil, expressed by pencil hardness such as HB and 2H

Nippon Paper Chemicals will exhibit this new highly abrasion-resistant clear hardcoat film at Finetech Japan* (19th FPD R&D and Manufacturing Technology Expo & Conference).
