Kazaki Company-owned Forests Acquired J-Credit Certification for CO2 Forest Absorption inCompany-owned ForestsThinning

Nippon Paper Industries Co.,Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) announced that the amount of CO2 absorbed by continuous thinning in the Kazaki Company-owned Forests(Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture) (850 tons/year) is expected to be highlighted. 6,800 tons over 8 years) "Nippon Paper Industries Co.,Ltd. On the other hand, Shizuoka Prefecture and the Group signed a contract in May 2022 to utilize the prefecture'sCompany-owned Forestsas a field for domesticforestry industryrestoration support and promote the on-site implementation of advanced technologies. "VIRTUAL SHIZUOKA"*3 We were able to connect public survey data to credit creation by utilizing open data that had already been surveyed and cooperating with Asahi Koyo Co., Ltd., which actually conducts aerial surveys, for analysis work. This is the first result of this agreement, and it is also the first time in Japan that a credit using an aviation laser has been certified. The Company will contribute to the further use of J-Credits by disclosing theknow-howwe have accumulated this time based on an agreement with the prefecture regarding the application method for setting up J-Credits using such aerial laser measurement and analysis.

The Company own a total of approximately 90,000 hectares of forests throughout Japan, and for many years we have been promoting the use of effectivedomestic timberand working on appropriate forest management. All forests owned by the company have obtained Japan's unique forest certification system "SGEC Forest Certification"*4, but Kitayama Company-owned Forestsin Shizuoka Prefecture, which is the same as the Kazaki Company-owned Forests, is the first forest to be certified under this system, and next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the system's inception.
