United Nations Global Compact

United United Nations Global Compact logo image

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is one of the world's largest sustainability initiatives that brings together the United Nations and the private sector (companies and organizations) to build a healthy global society. The UNGC has set forth 10 principles across four areas: human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and participating companies aim for sustainable growth of society by implementing these 10 principles.
Nippon Paper Industries has joined this initiative in 2004 by expressing its support for the 10 principles of the UNGC.

TCFD

In 2021, the Group endorsed the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) with the aim of appropriately disclosing information in response to climate change issues. The TCFD took over its role to the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in 2023, and its recommendations continue to be the international basis for climate-related disclosures.
Based on these recommendations, the Group conducts scenario analysis assuming rising temperatures, sets indicators and targets, and is working to reduce risks and capture opportunities by leveraging its strengths.

30by30 Alliance

30by30 Alliance Logo Image

In 2022, the Company joined the“30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity”, an initiative operated by the Ministry of the Environment and in which volunteers such as companies, local governments, and organizations participate. It has been participating since the beginning of the year. “30by30”international goal that aims to conserve more than 30% of land and sea areas as natural environmental areas by 2030 in order to achieve nature positivity*.

Nature Positive Management Promotion Platform

The Nature Positive Management (NPE) Promotion Platform was established as a place for companies and local governments to cooperate to promote NPE and business matching. The Group has been participating in this platform since 2025 as“NPE Partners”to promote NPE and“NPE Solution Partners”with nature-positive technology.

TNFD Adopter

In 2025, the Group registered with“TNFD Adopter*”to express our intention to disclose information in line with Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures(TNFD). TNFD is an international framework for companies to assess and disclose their impacts and risks to the natural environment and biodiversity. The Group business activities are closely related to the natural world that nurtures biodiversity, and the Group is actively working to assess nature-related risks based on TNFD.  
*Companies and organizations that have expressed their intention to disclose information in accordance with the recommendations of the TNFD and have registered on the TNFD website.

International Sustainable Forestry Coalition

In 2025, the Company joined the organization“International Sustainable Forestry Coalition(ISFC:International Sustainable Forestry Coalition)”, which was established by forest-related companies around the world. Based on sustainable forest management, ISFC will work to improve the value of forests through the development of natural capital accounting standards and the promotion of substitution from mineral and fossil resources to wood resources. In addition, the Company will work to create the necessary international frameworks and standards for forests. Through ISFC activities, the Company will further collaborate with forest-related companies around the world to maximize the value of its forests.

Keidanren Nature Conservation Council

The Keidanren Nature Conservation Council was established in 1992 together with the Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund as an organization that implements the ideas of “Keidanren Global Environment Charter” in the field of nature conservation.
The Company has been participating in the association since its establishment.

Keidanren Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation

The Keidanren Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation is a framework in which companies and organizations that promote biodiversity initiatives participate in the purpose of“Declaration of Biodiversity by Keidanren and Action Policy”formulated by the Japan Business Federation and Keidanren Nature Conservation Council.
The Group has been participating in this initiative since 2021.

Japan Partnership for Circular Economy

“Japan Partnership for Circular Economy(J4CE)”is a public-private partnership framework established by the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Keidanren with the aim of fostering further understanding of the circular economy and promoting initiatives. the Company has been participating in this initiative since 2021 and are disseminating various initiatives that contribute to the construction of a circular economy.
