Research Laboratory
The Research Laboratory is researching afforestation technology aimed at ensuring a stable supply of wood, which is the raw material for paper, the utilization of wood resources for non-paper applications, and papermaking technology for our core business. Research on afforestation technology is carried out in overseas plantation sites, where we are improving the growth potential of plantation trees, conducting genetic improvement, and developing analytical methods. As a non-paper application of wood resources, we are developing chemical products using biomass raw materials and torrefaction (semi-carbonized) fuels. In terms of papermaking technology, we have a consistent R&D system for all processes from pulping, papermaking, coating, and even printing.
Research on Forest Resources
The Company has sustainable forest resources both domestically and internationally, and is actively engaged in forest resource research. In Japan, we are developing technology to expand elite tree seedlings, and overseas, we are developing technology to improve the productivity of plantation areas. Considering CO2 fixation and biodiversity, we are also leading to the increase in added value of wood and the development of alternative materials.
-
Elite Trees (Specified Seedlings) Production Technology

We will work on the production of seedlings such as Elite Trees, which have characteristics such as high CO2 absorption capacity, excellent growth, and low pollen content.
-
Plantation Technology

The Company, in addition to paper and pulp raw materials, is also promoting overseas plantation business with a view to energy and biochemical applications.
Research on Wood Materials
We will continue research on wood materials and develop high-performance materials using Cellulose and Lignin. We aim to contribute to lightweighting and strengthening, replace plastics, and commercialize products that contribute to a circulation-oriented society.
-
Kraft Lignin (Under development)

In order to create new possibilities for the renewable resource “Wood”, our research laboratory is developing a method to use it as a chemical, focusing on Lignin produced in the pulp production process.
-
Utilization of Lignosulfonates

Lignosulfonates are polymeric substances that have cohesive properties. Taking advantage of these properties, Lignosulfonates acid products are used in many fields as binders.
-
Pulverized pulp products

The research laboratory is looking to expand the use of pulp to create new possibilities for renewable resource "Wood".
-
Cattle Feed

Utilizing high-purity cellulose derived from wood, we have developed a new domestic feed “Genki Morimori™”, which is an energy source for cattle.
