In order to efficiently promote consistent R&D from raw materials to products, our headquarters conducts all research and development related to plantation, Paper and pulp, and the utilization of biomass.

We are responsible for research and development of basic technologies that support the foundation of Paper and pulp production. We aim to improve efficiency and establish technologies to reduce environmental burden across the entire process, from plantation to wood processing, pulping, and Paper. In addition, we play an important role in supporting the strengthening of the competitiveness of the entire Group through the development of technologies that contribute to improving the quality and productivity of existing products.

We specialize in developing packaging solutions that contribute to a sustainable society. We are conducting research and development of environmentally friendly packaging based on Paper and packaging materials with high functionality. In order to meet the needs of a wide range of fields, from food containers to industrial materials, we are working to create next-generation packaging technologies that combine safety, functionality, and design.

We are promoting research and development of innovative materials derived from wood resources, including Cellulose nanofiber (CNFs). We aim to establish CNF manufacturing technology and develop its application, as well as explore and commercialize biomass materials with new functions. With a view to its application in a variety of industrial fields such as automobiles, electronics, and medicine, we are pursuing material innovation that will open up the future.

We focus on the development of chemical products and fuels made from woody biomass. We aim to create environmentally friendly products that can replace petroleum-derived products, such as Bioethanol, bioplastic raw materials, and functional chemicals, by utilizing sugars and Lignin derived from wood. In order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable resource-circulation-oriented society, we are working on the development of innovative biochemical technologies.

It specializes in the research and development of functional materials such as functional coating resins, optical films, and special Paper. We are developing products that utilize our unique technology for markets that require advanced functions, such as information and electronic materials, medical and healthcare, and energy. In order to meet the diverse needs of our customers, we conduct consistent research from material design to process development and aim to provide high-value-added products.

We accept all intellectual property business of major group companies, including Nippon Paper Industries. In order to strengthen the intellectual property capabilities of NIPPON PAPER GROUP as a whole, we work with the research, mill, and sales departments to protect intellectual property related to new technologies and products, and manage and utilize them. In addition, the department is also in charge of technical contracts.
