R&D system to promote innovation
The NIPPON PAPER GROUP is strengthening each business and promoting research and development of new businesses and foundation businesses in order to drive the transformation of its business structure to “comprehensive biomass company”. Research and Development Division consists of the Basic Technology Research Laboratory, the Packaging Research Laboratory, the Fuji Innovative Materials Research Laboratory, the Chemical Products Research Laboratory, the Functional Materials Development Laboratory, the Intellectual Property Department, and the departments that support them. They collaborate, leveraging their respective expertise, to promote research and development across the Group. Under this organizational structure, with our strengths in the comprehensive utilization of wood resources, we are engaged in research and development covering all processes, from plantation technology to the development of chemical products and fuels using biomass raw materials, and papermaking technology. We are also focusing on the development of technologies related to packaging materials and packaging, the development of innovative materials such as Cellulose nanofiber (CNFs), and the research and development of functional coating resins and optical films. By protecting, managing, and utilizing intellectual property across the Group, the Intellectual Property Department maximizes research results and contributes to sustainable growth and new value creation.
