(head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President &President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"Nippon Paper Industries”December 2022, the Company will begin recycling paper cups (lids, cups, and stirrers) used in domestic in-flight services on some flights to and from Haneda Airport.

■ Background of introduction
In order to value resources, the JAL Group uses paper cups that have obtained international certifications that are considerate of forest resources. In addition, we are gradually switching to paper products that have obtained the same certification for paper cup lids and stirrers from October 2022. On the other hand, used foodpaper cartonsare defined by the Waste PaperRecycling Promotion Center from a technical point of view, such as how to remove paper fibers from materials that are compounded with plastic glued to paper and waterproofed, and from the treatment of plastic remaining after the paper fibers are removed, as well as from the perspective of hygiene such as stains and odors of food residues adhered to the containers Waste Paperis designated as a contraindicated item in the classification and is currently incinerated as general waste.
In order to solve this problem, Nippon Paper Industries has refined its technology to recycle the plastic and paper that are attached to the surface of paper cups into their respective materials using the recycling technology that has been cultivated over many years, and to extract recycled paper fibers. Based on this technology, we are operating a new dedicated recycling facility for foodpaper cartonsat the Fuji mill in October this year.
Under the cooperation of the two companies, the JAL Group has appropriately sorted and collected paper cups used in in-flight services, and the NIPPON PAPER GROUP has established its own route for transporting, collecting, and packaging used paper cups, making it possible to separate and recycle used paper cups andWaste Paper.
Initially, we will recycle it intocorrugated boxesand toilet paper, but in the future, we will implement horizontal recycling fromPapercups toPapercups, aiming to promote resource recycling and reduce CO2 emissions.
