Commencement of commercial operation of Yufutsu biomass Power Plant

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) announced that Sojitz Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Masayoshi Fujimoto, hereinafter referred to as "hereinafter referred to as "Sojitz") and the power generation company "Yufutsu Energy Center, LLC”have been jointly established to promote the construction of the Yufutsu biomassPower Plant, which has now been completed and has started commercial operation today.
"Yufu Biomass Power Plant"
The power generation output of the Yufutsu biomass Power Plant is 74,950 kW, making it one of the largest power generation facilities in Japan dedicated tobiomass. The fuel is mainly wood chipsand PKS (palm palm shells) procured from overseas, as well as unused wood such as forest residues generated in Hokkaido. The Company are entrusted with the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment, and we will operate it safely and stably.
The Company are focusing on the Energy Business by utilizing the power generation technology andknow-howcultivated atPapermill. In the YufutsubiomassFire Power Generation Project, which we will jointly launch with Sojitz, we will take advantage of Yufutsu's strengths such as land and equipment, human resources with driving skills, and biomass procurement capabilities to promote long-term stable business operations. Under the Slogan "Shaping the Future with Trees”, the Company will promote the use of woodybiomass, which leads to the reduction ofCO2 emissions, in the energy field, expand our business, and contribute to the stable supply of electricity and the development of the local Hokkaido region.
