“Development project of manufacturing technology for concrete using CO₂” Participated in the consortium “CUCO” and started full-scale development of chemical admixture technology.
Flowric Co., Ltd.
NIPPON PAPER GROUP Flowric Co., Ltd. (head office : Toshima-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Yozo Igarashi, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) is a subsidiary of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization We participated in CUCO, a consortium established for the purpose of implementing"Green Innovation Fund Project/CO₂-based Concrete Manufacturing Technology Development Project”adopted on January 24, 2022, and aims to achieve innovative "carbon-negative concrete”*1 by 2030 we will proceed with the development related to in earnest.
CUCO is a consortium of 55 companies, universities, and research institutes, including Kashima Corporation, Denka, and Takenaka Corporation, with the goal of "Realization of a carbon-neutral society by 2050”, and is working to develop innovative methods for efficiently producing carbon-negative concrete. In this context, the Companywill be in charge of the development of technology for efficientCO2 fixation methods in concrete using various admixtures (see the red frame in Figure 1).

Fig. 1 Research items of the Company CUCO (red frame)
Currently, carbon-negative concrete is being developed through many processes to absorb and fix CO₂, but in order to implement and expand its use in society in the future, it is essential to develop new chemical admixtures that improve manufacturing efficiency and establish appropriate chemical admixture utilization technologies. In addition, it is expected that many CCU materials*2 will appear in the future due to the research results of companies participating in CUCO.
The Company the design and manufacturing technology of concrete admixtures accumulated over a long period of time, we will strive to solve the problems of CUCO's fresh concrete properties (flowability and rheological properties) and hardened concrete properties (strength and durability) using various CCU materials. Together with CUCO, we aim to develop chemical admixtures necessary for the new era.
As a member of CUCO, the Companywill actively contribute to global warming countermeasures by promoting the development of technologies for CO₂ utilization and implementing them in society.
*1 Concrete that reduces CO2 emissions caused by the materials used and absorbs and fixes CO2 in concrete, reducing the CO2 emissions associated with concrete production to a net negative (which can reduce CO2 from society).
*2 Calcium carbonate produced by reacting calcium extracted from waste concrete, etc. with CO2 can be used as a concrete material. CCU stands for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization
