Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) signed an agreement with the Okinawa Forest Office of the Kyushu Forestry Department of the Forestry Agency(Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Director: Kaori Ito) in August 2017. Agreement to carry out forest conservation activities in about 9 hectares of national forest on Iriomote Island, Okinawa Prefecture"Agreement on Forest Creation Activities in Forests of Diverse Activities”has been updated today.

This agreement is based on the"Forestry with the participation of the public through the conclusion of the agreement”system established by the Forestry Agency to promote forest development with the participation of the public in various forest maintenance and conservation activities using national forests as a field.

Iriomote Island is home to valuable wild flora and fauna, including theIriomote cat, a special natural monument of the country, and the island was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2021. On the other hand, the invasion of a large number of alien plants over a wide area has become an issue, andbiodiversity conservationto maintain rich nature has become a major theme that should continue to be addressed in the future.

Based on the agreement signed in 2017, the Company have been working with the Iriomote Island Ecotourism Association (Taketomi Town, Yaeyama District, Okinawa Prefecture, Chairman: Akiken Taira) to regularly investigate the breeding status and exterminate theBay Biscayne creeping oxeye, an invasive species mainly as an emergency measure. As a result of the activities over the past five years, there is currently little reproduction of Bay Biscayne creeping oxeyein the area where it operates.

Based on this achievement, this renewal of the agreement confirms the continuation of activities for another five years. In addition to our previous activities, we will also monitor the invasion status of alien plants other than Bay Biscayne creeping oxeye.

The Company"a comprehensive biomass company shaping the future with trees”, we will continue to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society by providing various values of forests to society through biodiversity conservation and cooperation with local communities.
