Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President &President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) will start selling a new magazine body paper "N.Polaris 43 Mocha(N Polaris 43 Mocha)”, from October.
Conventionally, the magazine bodyPaper(publishingPaper*1) sold by the company is a highly mixed Mechanical pulp*2, and its characteristics make it a high-opacity Paper that is lightweight, bulky, and has little ink leakage.
However,Mechanical pulpconsumes more energy during production thanchemical pulp*3 andRecycled pulp, and has the problem of relatively high GHG Emissions.
The newly developed"N.Polaris 43 Mocha”utilizes the Company unique bulk technology and ink backing prevention technology, and uses 100%chemical pulpinstead ofMechanical pulp.PaperCompared to the life cycle ofGHG Emissionsreduced by about 20%. *4
In our 2030VISION, the Company aim to reduce GHG Emissionsby 54% by FY2030 compared to FY2013 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Under the Slogan of "Shaping the Future with Trees”, we will continue to develop products with lowGHG Emissions through out our main business of graphic Paper, and will gradually work to reduce GHG Emissions for existing products.
*1 printing paperclassified as D.printing paper It is mainly used in weekly magazines, monthly magazines, and manga magazines.
*2 Pulp produced by mechanically grinding wood using a machine.
*3 Pulp produced by extracting wood fibers through chemical treatment.
*4 Assuming that the manufacturing conditions of N.Polaris43Mocha are the same as those of our existingthe Company, the amount of life cycle GHG emission reduction when only the pulp blend ratio is changed is estimated.
