Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) is pleased to announce that the combustion ash generated by the Yufutsu biomass Power Plant and the Yatsushiro mill N1biomass Power Generation Facility (hereinafter referred to as"biomass gray") will start full-scale sales of fertilizers derived from January 2024. We will use the "Domestic Fertilizer Resource Matching Site" operated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to carry out sample work for fertilizer manufacturing companies and fertilizer users.
The Company 2018, we have been selling a portion ofbiomassash from the Yatsushiro mill as a special fertilizer on a trial basis, and since the results have been good, we established a supply system that can convert the entire amount ofbiomassash into fertilizer of 300 tons/year in July 2023. In addition, in October 2023, we established a 5,000 tons/year supply system for Yufutsu's biomassash registered as a by-product fertilizer at "Act on Ensuring the Quality of Fertilizers (Fertilizer Law)", and will start full-scale sales based on a total supply system of 5,300 tons/year for Yatsushiro and Yufutsu.
Biomass ash fueled by woodWood chipsisbiomass known to contain fertilizer components such as potassium, and since Japan relies on imports for many fertilizer components, it is expected to be used as fertilizer raw materials as a domestic resource that can be stably supplied. the Company will contribute toPapera stable supply of fertilizer raw materials through the effective use ofbiomassash, which is a domestic resource, by utilizing the operatingknow-howofin-house power generationand the collection network of woodWood chipscultivated through paper production.
In particular, the YufutsubiomassPower Plant is one of the largestbiomasspower plants in Japan, jointly established by the Company and began commercial operation in February 2023, and is a wood chips procured from overseas as fuel. In addition to PKS (palm palm shells), we are always collecting unused wood such as forest land residues generated in Hokkaido, so we can provide a stable and large supply of fertilizer. In addition, the YatsushiromillN1biomasspower generation facility was commercially operated in June 2015 and is fueled by 100% woodybiomassWood chipsderived from domestically produced thinned wood.
