Further to the commercialization of paper cartons starts the upcycling project.
In the paper cartons upcycling project, used beveragepaper cartonssuch as paper cups andpaper cartonsare transformed into high-value-added fabric products such as towels and aprons desired by the participating businesses "choitoTM". By using a dedicated collection kit forpaper cartons, participating businesses can work on recycling with economic rationality, regardless of the amount of money generated, such as at each store . In addition, the recycling certificate issued by NP Trading allows participating businesses to visualize the results of their recycling activities.
NIPPON PAPER GROUP has been conducting demonstration tests for the recycling of used paper containers in collaboration with specific businesses and local governments, and in the future, many businesses will participate through the project to contribute to the expansion of the recycling of used beveragepaper cartons, which have been often discarded until now.
The reality is that most of the used beveragepaper cartons are considered unsuitable for recycling from hygiene perspectives due to contamination of food residues, technical points such as how to extract pulp from composite materials made of plastic glued to paper, and the treatment of plastic remaining after removing the pulp, and most of them are disposed of as general waste. NIPPON PAPER GROUP has been working to reduce waste and make effective use of paper resources by recyclingcontainerboardsfor applications such as corrugated paper, but from October 2022, Nippon Paper Industries's Fuji mill will introduce newpaper cartons for food and beverages. We have put into operation a recycling facility dedicated to the type of recycled pulp, making it possible to produce high-quality, high-white recycled pulp. By using this pulp, in addition to recycling into cardboard and toilet paper, we can also upcycle used beveragepaper cartonsinto "choitoTM", a cloth product made from paper yarn.
