JAL Invests in Morisora Biorefinery LLC

~Construction of the plant starts with the aim of producing pure domestic Bioethanol from 2027~

Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (head office : Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President &President and Representative Director: Mitsuko Tottori, hereinafter“referred to as“JAL”) is pleased to announce that it is working to realizesustainable aviation fuel”BioethanolbiorefineryLLC (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Employee:Nippon Paper Industries Co.,Ltd., hereinafter referred to as“Morizorabiorefinery”).

Morizorabiorefineryis a subsidiary of Nippon Paper Industries Co.,Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as“NIPPON PAPER INDUSTRIES”"), Sumitomo Corporation, and Green Earth Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as“GEI”). It is a joint venture established in July 2025 by the three companies, and aims to realize“Manufacture and sales of bioethanol and biochemical products made from woody biomass”as part of the“Morisora Project ®”. We will build a demonstration plant atNIPPON PAPER INDUSTRIESIwanumamillin Miyagi Prefecture and utilize the low-carbon, low-costBioethanolproduction technology developed by GEI using sustainablesustainable forest resourcesfrom the Tohoku region, such aslumber and lower grade timber, to produce an annual output of 1 from 2027. More than 000 kiloliters ofBioethanolaim to be produced.

JAL has been working to promote the spread of biofuels for more than 10 years, and has been participating in the Morisora Project since March 2025. (*1) By investing as an airline as a SAF user, we will contribute to the realization of“Pure domestic SAF”project derived from domestic wood.

On October 3, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at NIPPON PAPER INDUSTRIES' Iwanumamill, the site where the demonstration plant is scheduled to be built. The demonstration plant is scheduled to be completed by the end of FY2026 and will be operational by 2030 with a commercial plant capable of producing tens of thousands of kiloliters ofBioethanoland biochemical products per year.

JAL and Morizorabiorefinerywill continue to work on mass production and dissemination of pure domestic SAF using domestic wood through the“Morizora Project ®”, contributing to the realization ofdecarbonizationsociety, regional revitalization, and the creation of a sustainable future.
