Signed an agreement with Shizuoka Prefecture on on-site implementation of advanced technology

Nippon Paper Industries Co.,Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President & President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as "Nippon Paper Industries”) and Nippon Paper Lumber Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President &President and Representative Director: Kunihiko Hayama, hereinafter referred to as "Nippon Paper Lumber Co., Ltd.") signed a "Agreement on On-site Implementation of Advanced Technology" with Shizuoka Prefecture for the first time in the prefecture today.

Shizuoka Prefecture is promoting innovation in forests and forestry industry through on-site implementation of advanced technologies for the sustainable development of localforestry industry and the proper conservation of forests. In the past, Nippon Paper Industries has jointly conducted training for localforestry industrymanagement entities and trial planting ofelite tree seedlingsin Nippon Paper Industries's Company-owned Forests, and through this agreement, we will strengthen cooperation and accelerate the introduction of advanced technologies toforestry industrysites." Sustainable on-site implementation".

The three parties will work together and cooperatively on the following items. In addition, Nippon Paper Industries and Nippon Paper Lumber Co., Ltd. will provide Company-owned Forests in the prefecture, including Kitayama, Fujinomiya City, as fields.

(2) Sharing and utilization of high-precision forest information such as forest resources

(3) Demonstration of advanced technologies in forests andforestry industryand dissemination of results

(4) Other matters related to the on-site implementation of advanced technologies in the forest andforestry industry

In the "2030VISION” formulated last year, NIPPON PAPER GROUP aims to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by promoting sustainability management that pursues both social and environmental sustainability and corporate growth. Shizuoka Prefecture is the first symbolic land in Japan to be certified in the SGEC forest certification system*, FM (Nippon Paper Industries), CoC (Nippon Paper Lumber Co., Ltd.), and Project (Shizuoka Prefecture Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center), and the prefecture andthe Companyare committed to sustainable forest management, including the promotion of seedling propagation, We have been working together to promote the use of wood.

The judging is based on seven criteria that respect Japan's unique natural environment, social customs, and culture. It was launched in 2003 and mutual certification with PEFC was approved in June 2016.
