Nanko Unyu Co., Ltd. (President: Masaki Kawahara), a company in the Nippon Paper Group, received the Award of Excellence, the highest award in the Safety Related Business Office Awards from the Japan Port Transport Industry Safety & Health Association for 2012, and was presented with a plaque and a certificate of commendation at the 49th Japan Port Industrial Accident Prevention National Meeting held in Chiba Prefecture on October 19.

Nanko Unyu was acclaimed for its ability to continue operations without any accidents in the challenging working environment of the Sendai Kamaishi Port - Ishinomaki Port Area(*), which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, and was presented with the award as a result. This is the second time the Company has received the award, with the first being 31 years ago.

The Company commenced the port transport business in 1962 and celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Around 4.5 million tons of cargo are landed annually at the Ishinomaki Port Area, and the Company handles approximately 60% of the cargo, centered on cargo used at the Ishinomaki Mill (Ishinomaki, Miyagi) of Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshio Haga).

The Company will continue its efforts to achieve accident-free operations, not only in the port transportation business, but also in the land transportation business.
