Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Fumio Manoshiro; hereinafter the "Company") considers packages as a prospective growth area of business and is in the process of developing packaging materials and packages based on paper made from wood biomass, a recycled material. One of such products under development is SHIELDPLUS®, a packaging material that has barrier properties. The Company announces that the Packaging Communication Center and the Packaging Research Laboratory that were established in April of this year will collaboratively work on application development in earnest.
Recently, packages are expected to incorporate different functions from the perspective of food safety and eco-friendliness. SHIELDPLUS® is a new eco-friendly packaging material made of paper, renewable and recycled material, embedded with oxygen and flavor barrier properties, featuring papermaking and coating technologies that the Company has developed over years as a paper-manufacturing company. The paper-based product also features the unique texture of paper, different than that of films. The excellent barrier functionality of SHIELDPLUS® maintains the quality of its contents (mainly food) and keeps external odors from being absorbed by the product.
SHIELDPLUS® will be exhibited at TOKYO PACK 2016 held from Tuesday, October 4 until Friday, October 7, so that visitors can experience its merit and potential. SHIELDPLUS® Premier, featuring an enhanced barrier performance (mainly a vapor barrier property), will also be exhibited at the Exhibition for reference.
