Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Fumio Manoshiro; hereinafter "NPI") announces that it will launch "NP-PAK Bio", the liquid packaging carton for chilled products almost fully based on plant-derived recyclable biomass materials.

Generally, paper-based cartons have lamination that is coated on both sides with fossil-fuel-derived resin. "NP-PAK Bio" is the eco-friendly liquid packaging carton for chilled products with a 98% degree of biomass*1 without compromising the functionality of a conventional carton. In addition, "NP-PAK Bio" contributes to the reduction of the global environmental load by reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the lifecycle of the plant-derived resin by 60% compared with cartons using fossil-fuel-derived resin.

NPI has received the newly acquired certification for a biomass symbol*2 during the course of development of "NP-PAK Bio". This allows NPI to display the symbol claiming a degree of biomass of 90% on the package. Moreover, "NP-PAK Bio" is allowed to show a logo of forest certifications. NPI will offer NP-PAK Bio as an environmentally and socially friendly product.

As a comprehensive biomass company shaping the future with trees, NPI will satisfy the increasing needs of the environmental market, develop eco-friendly products, and contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
