Developed and started providing samples of TEMPO oxidized CNF powder product"Cellenpia(R)TD-02X”.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (head office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo,President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as"the Company”) is a dry powder product of TC-02X of the water dispersion type in the TEMPO oxidized CNF series, which is an ultra-fine fiber nanodispersed with a perfectly uniform fiber width of about 3 nm. We have developed "cellenpia(R)TD-02X”, which has excellent redispersibility in water and is 100% CNF, and start providing samples."

When redispersed in water, TD-02X exhibits unique rheological behavior such as high transparency, high aspect ratio, thixocity, and suspension stability as a single nanofiber aqueous dispersion solution (Note 1). By providing it as a powder, logistics costs can be greatly reduced, and it is expected that it will be easier to store and store, and the scope of application will be greatly expanded, including expansion to overseas markets.

We produce TEMPO the Company oxidized CNF (Note 2) at the Ishinomakimillfor general industrial applications, and Carboxymethylated CNF (CM-based CNF) (Note 3) at the Ezu mill for food and cosmetics applications, and sell them nationwide. In addition, at the”Fujimill, we are developing parts in collaboration with Yamaha Motor in the midst of demonstration production of CNF-Reinforced Resin"cellenpia Plas(R)". We are providing samples to each user (Note 4), and since November last year, we have also established a sample supply system for"Cellenpia Elas(R)” CNF-containing natural rubber (Note 5). In response to this, we aim to further expand sales of the "cellenpia(R) series" by adding TD-02X, a powder product of TEMPO oxidized CNF, to the lineup. Nippon Paper Industries will accelerate the creation of newinnovative materialsand CNFs as" a comprehensive biomass company shaping the future with trees”and contribute to the construction of plastic reduction and global warming countermeasures.

(Note 1) Meaning of the term

・Thixocity: High viscosity in a resting state and decreases when stirred.

・Rheological behavior: Movement related to the deformation of a substance and general flow when an external force is applied to the object

・Suspension stability: The property of stabilizing the insoluble components contained in the solution when they are uniformly dispersed.

(Note 2) CNF produced by oxidizing cellulose(raw pulp) by TEMPO catalyst and then by minor defibering. Very thin CNF with fiber width approx. 3nm

(Note 3) CNF produced by carboxymethylation (CM) of cellulose(raw pulp) and minor defibering. CNF https://www.nipponpapergroup.com/products/cnf/ with fiber width of a few nm~tens of nm
