The final of the 79th All-Japan Ice Hockey Championships was held on February 12, and the Nippon Paper Cranes came from behind to defeat the Oji Eagles 3-1, achieving their third consecutive win and fifth-ever championship victory. No team has won the championship three straight times since Kokudo did so from 1997 to 1999. In addition, No. 16 forward Daisuke Obara was chosen as MVP.
The Cranes will now look to the remaining four games of the regular league starting February 18 as they fight for the right to advance to the Asia League playoffs. The Cranes are looking to pull of the double of All-Japan and Asia League victories, and appreciate everyone's continued support.
