Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.
Nippon Paper Papylia Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Papylia, a subsidiary of Nippon Paper, and DuPont Specialty Products, a subsidiary of DuPont de Nemours, Inc., agreed to establish "DuPont Nippon Paper Papylia Godo Kaisha" (DPNP) to produce Nomex® Paper, an electrical insulation material. DPNP will utilize part of the Hokkaido mill at Nippon Paper Industries' Yufutsu production site for the manufacturing of Nomex® Paper. Commercial operation will begin in 2021.

Nomex® Paper is used for variety of applications. Its inherent flame resistance combined with high levels of electrical, chemical and mechanical integrity make Nomex® ideally suited for a broad range of electrical insulation applications. Nomex® paper is a key enabling technology in automotive electrification, insulating millions of xEV electric drive motors globally, while also protecting critical components within the power electronics and battery systems. Commercial airplanes use honeycomb made from Nomex® paper as a critical component in the interior and exterior structure.

The restructuring of its paper production system and the utilization of facilities is one of the themes of Nippon Paper Group's medium-term management plan. The new business is promoting the change of the business structure toward the fields where market growth is expected. At the same time, DPNP is contributing to the development of the area in Hokkaido by utilizing the lands, facilities, and know-how and technology developed by paper manufacturing in the mill.
